MANUAL TEAMWORK, LEADERSHIP AND NEGOTIATION

TEAMWORK, LEADERSHIP AND NEGOTIATION

• Stand up for your opinions, ideas and wishes, while respecting those of others. • Always document the reasons that lead us to adopt a certain position. Do not try to impose or demand without arguing or listening to others. • Avoid passive attitudes. A good leader must convey confidence and enthusiasm. He or she must be convincing.

Empathy

It is often essential to put yourself in the other person's shoes in order to understand the situation in the communication flow. In order to generate empathy towards another team member, it is important to: • Be in control of your feelings and be flexible. Do not judge until you have fully understood the other person. • Control how you say things, not just the verbal message. Aspects such as tone of voice, posture or eye contact say a lot about our mood, emotions, etc. • Show sensitivity to your interlocutor: show that you understand what they are saying and help them to clarify their ideas and feelings.

Constructive criticism

In the following, we will provide you with some guidelines before issuing constructive criticism.

• Consider that the aim of criticism is to bring about an improvement, not to attack the receiver of our message. • Make sure you choose the right place and the right time. • Identify the specific behaviour you are criticising and make it explicit. • Highlight why this is a problem.
