TEAMWORK, LEADERSHIP AND NEGOTIATION

How did my relationship with Yoel start? I met him on a train trip I took during the holidays and it turned out that we lived in the same city. In September we met again to see each other, although during the times when we can't see each other because of work we talk to each other by e-mail.

Affinities between people

We are attracted to people who agree with us on fundamental ideological issues, values, etc. This gives consistency between our thinking and our behaviour. This gives coherence between our thinking and our behaviour.

Jorge and I have always been very close, we agree on our way of thinking. For example, for both of us, the company's social policy is fundamental, and this can be seen in the way the department works.

The perception of similar issues in the other person encourages us to expect optimal results from the relationship we have in common.

Acceptance

We tend to approach people with whom we sense that they will accept us in a positive way. In a reciprocal way this also makes the other appreciate us.

When I was presenting my ideas, some members of the group just looked at me with no expression on their faces and occasionally averted their gaze to the table. Helena, however, listened attentively and nodded convincingly to my speech. I soon knew that she would understand me. Sometimes the first feeling we get from someone we don't know is that we don't connect and we sense that same feeling in a reciprocal way. But the fact of relating to that person and seeing that he or she takes an interest in us can automatically make that feeling disappear.
