TEAMWORK, LEADERSHIP AND NEGOTIATION
5. R oles and functions in the team
I don't know what image they must have made of me, they must have described me as arrogant and unsociable, but that wasn't really me. I behaved very badly, but I just didn't feel at ease in that meeting. All of us have felt something similar at some point because we have not behaved coherently with our way of being, conditioned by a given situation, a given context.
Consequently, our behaviour shapes the way others perceive us and helps them to establish a perception of us.
It is important for us to be aware of the role we play in our work team, to recognise how others perceive us, what expectations they have of us, and to see how our behaviour as we take on a particular role fits in with the behaviour of others around us. It is important that each member of the team is accepted and recognised as having a role to play. Rejection or confrontation will affect the smooth running of the team.
5.1. Analysis of roles in a team
Let us imagine that the world is a great theatre and that each of us has been assigned a role to play. But has this role been assigned to us or have we created it step by step? Possibly both are true. This special theatre is made up of a variety of scenarios and not infrequently the role we play in each of them is different, although there will be an essential part of ourselves that will always remain present.
